On the penultimate Saturday match-day of the year St John's U9 Bees faced our talented local rivals, Hough End Griffins.
With almost a full complement of players St John's took the opportunity to take an up to date end of year photograph prior to kick off.

Hough End started confidently and showed their ability with good passing and movement. They got the break-through when the St John's defence failed to clear the ball and the Hough End striker was on hand to score from close range.
They extended their lead after winning a free-kick when Roberto handled the ball halfway into the St John's half. The Hough End midfielder fired the ball over the wall and straight into the net to make it 2-0.
They then went further ahead when a cross from the left was not cleared and their striker guided the ball into the net.

At the start of the second third Hough End continued in the same vain and scored their fourth goal when their player broke clear past two St John's defender and shot past Sam in the ST John's net
St John's were allowed to bring on an extra player and eventually that started to pay. Connor scored another brilliant goal when he picked up the ball inside his own half, took the ball forward past several Hough End players, advanced into the box and smashed the ball home.
St John's then doubled their tally when the ball fell to Roberto on the edge of the box. He hit a powerful volley into the roof of the net.
Hough End were not deterred and again extended their lead to 3 goals when the talented number 10 beat several St John's players and passed to the number 7 who slotted the ball past Sam and into the net.

After resuming equal player numbers the third period was much more even and keenly fought. Both teams created chances but were unable to trouble the scorekeepers.

With such a large squad of players present it was difficult to rotate the team to give all the boys adequate playing time. Despite the score I can't fault the boys for effort and application.
